Review a bill of materials, reserve components in Inventory, and record the exact finished output and consumed material cost.
Prepare the Inventory workspace#
Install and configure Inventory first. Confirm the business country and stock currency, set up an active warehouse, and create separate Inventory items for the components and output. Manufacturing uses those exact Inventory items and balances.
Use one warehouse, one finished item, and whole units for each work order. Managers can prepare records and review stock history. The workspace owner releases bills and approves, completes or cancels orders.
Create and review a bill of materials#
Select the finished Inventory item and specify the quantity of each distinct component required for one unit of output. Save the bill as a draft. The owner releases the exact reviewed revision.
A revision preserves earlier bills and work orders. Release a revised bill before drafting a new order from it. Existing reserved orders retain their original reviewed quantities.
Approve the exact quantity and reserve components#
Open a released bill, select the warehouse and enter the number of output units. Review the resulting component requirements in the draft work order before approving.
Approval holds all required quantities in Inventory. If any component is short, approval leaves the whole order in draft. Replenish stock and review availability again before retrying.
Complete production or release an unused reservation#
Confirm that the reserved quantities were consumed and the exact approved output was produced. Enter the production reference and post completion. The system issues the components and receives the finished units in one operation.
The finished stock receipt carries the total cost of the exact Inventory issues at completion. The carrying value covers consumed materials. Labour, overhead, partial batches, scrap and separate Accounting production journals are outside this workflow.
Cancel unused reservations with a reference. Cancellation releases the held components, with no finished receipt. If the browser response is uncertain, reload and check the order and movement references before retrying. Completed stock remains in the original Inventory movement history.
Keep the active workspace, actual business requirements and current setup summary in view. A guide explains a choice; it does not make that choice for you.
